lubricating throttle cables on 2000 929

How do you remove both throttle cables so you can gain access to the ends going into the starter/stop switch housing side?? I'm trying to lubricate those 2 cables. I removed the 2 screws from the bottom of the switch housing, handle bar weight (thought maybe I could slide the whole grip off the bar), and completely unthreaded the 2 nuts that hold those upper and lower metal tubes going into the switch housing, but can't figure out how to get the cable ends free/detached. Am I missing something?? The service manual doesn't tell you how to remove them and I could not find a post on here either that provides those details. Thanks in advance.

You have to lift the tank and remove them from the throttlebody mounts.
When you put them back together, set the adjuster barrel under the switch housing to the halfway point.
Then, use the adjustment range on the throttlebody mount to get your cables set as close as you can.
Then use the adjuster under the switch housing to fine tune it.

Holy crow, I didn't think it would be that much of an effort. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you also need to remove the airbox in order to get to the throttlebody mounts, right? It sounds like removing them from the throttlebody mounts will provide the slack at the handlebar side I need to get the cables off.

It took me about an hour when I removed my throttle tube and cables.
Like you, I discovered it wasn't possible to slide the tube all the way off the clip-on; had to go to the throttlebodies.

I attach long zipties to the hoses that plug onto the bottom of the airbox to help me attach them when putting it back together.

Thanks for the info jondog, much appreciated. I was hoping it wouldn't be that complicated to remove them, but guess not.
