2001 929 won't rev past 9k

I've been searching for awhile now and no luck. it just won't rev past 9k. Otherwise the bike seems fine. It has 11k on the clock. Full Arata exhaust and Power Commander. I greatly appreciate any ideas. Thank you

Re: 2001 929 won't rev past 9k

first thing to do is unhook the power commander n see if that helps. second thing to do is check your fuel pressure regulator. with the engine off unhook the vacuum hose n turn the key to the on position so the fuel pump primes n look for drips of fuel coming out the port where the hose goes. inspect the hose for any signs of gas leaking in there.

does it throw any codes when you jump the fi plug under the seat? start with unhooking the pc tho. id put a meter on the battery too n check that its getting charged. a weak charging system can cause similar symptoms. you should get about 14.5 volts with the engine at 35-4000rpm.

try that stuff. check for codes and report back. could be other stuff too but start with the easiest stuff first.

Thanks you. I tried unplugging the Power Commander. No luck. This weekend I will have time to try the other ideas. Thanks again.

Ok checked the for and voltage all look good. I have 8 blinks stored in the FI codes. The service manual say that is the TP sensor. I went through all the steps and lead me to replace the ECM. What do you guys think? New ECM?

Re: 2001 929 won't rev past 9k

did you clear the codes and it came back? honestly before i dropped 200$ on a used 929ecu id take in to the shop and have a professional diagnose it. then if they said it was the ecu id buy one but i personally wouldnt spend that kind of money on a hope it fixes it situation. thats just me. i guess if you bought one on ebay and it didnt fix the problem you could probably return it. or id make sure i got one from a seller that allowed returns. i dont know why the 929 ecu is so much more than the 954? i searched ebay for the 954 on accident, guess im just use to searching 954 instead of 929, but the 954 is only like 50 bucks where the 929 is closer to 200 and up. ? im just not sure about the tps but i know it can be adjusted but i dont know how to on a honda. i cant find any simple answers on it either? this is my first honda street bike but on my gsxr's its as simple as putting them into adjustment mode n moving it until its centered on the clocks. no suck luck on the honda.

Didn't clear the code. I was hoping it would lead to a faulty tps. I agree I'm not ready pull the trigger on a ecm. Not sure what to do next. My local shop has a CBR1000RR SP.
