Why Doesn't My Stock Muffler Bolt Up?

So my 954 came with a horrific D&D that's headed to the bin. I bought a nice used OEM muffler but the cone on the end of the bike pipe doesn't fit into my muffler? What gives?

Thanks

lets see the pipe. thats def an oem mid pipe so if you have an oem pipe it should bolt right on.

Have you got the gasket that goes between the two?

Re: Why Doesn't My Stock Muffler Bolt Up?

yeah thats weird. im not sure if maybe its a california specific pipe or what??? here is my oem 954 pipe and it doesnt have the guts blocking it inside. does yours have the honda stamp on it? just curious. looks like youve got a couple options. return it or chop off the spark arrestor from your mid pipe. maybe they switched to that internal spark arrestor half way thru the year or maybe its a pipe off a over seas 954 or like i said its a cali specific pipe or somethin? hard saying. reason i ask about the honda stamp is the 03 r1 had a very similar looking pipe. bolt holes line up if you were able to get it on there? have you tried poking it with a screw driver? lol ive seen similar material as that mesh looking stuff in there and its usually made of a very soft kind of thin metal that you could probably rheem out of there if nothing else.

Re: Why Doesn't My Stock Muffler Bolt Up?

you can see the flange on yours has some other slight differences as well? i looked a little closer at the r1 pipe and it wasnt a bolt on so thats not it.

That looks like a catalytic converter built into that can, so you might be right on the cali spec pipe.
