the above is correct. sometimes though you lose time by shifting up for a quick bit before shifting back down for a corner than you would by simply staying in gear and going slightly over the red line, even though the engine is not making any more power.
my civic had a 8K red line but the limiter didn't come in till 8250. mathematically 8300 was when the valves started to float.
I honestly didn't think my bike even had one, but i guess i just haven't flogged it enough yet. go figure, i thought i beat this thing pretty hard.
