Austin GP setback

Hi all,
So I decided to volunteer as a Track Marshall for the MotoGP race this year in Austin, TX (lots of fun by the way). There were 5 of us total riding out and back. We figured we would mozy out there in two days . 600 miles in on the first day my 929 protested the ride with full charging system failure. The boys at Electrosport were a lifesaver with a stator and regulator overnighted for $280. With a trip to the autoparts store we were back on the road by 2pm the next day. Thanks again Electrosport for saving my butt. I'm happy to say the ol' girl hummed beautifully the rest of the way there and back 1,500 miles or so.

Re: Austin GP setback

I bet that was fun, except for the break down, but you recovered from that very well.

I sure wanted to go this year.

Re: Austin GP setback

That's my second time at the Austin GP and I love that place. The ride out there could be better but I-10 is boring no matter what part of the country your in. One of the guys with us had never seen the GP bikes in person before, I tell ya there's nothing like seeing, hearing and smelling Factory GP bikes flying around there. Every motorcycle enthusiast should go at least once.

Re: Austin GP setback

Without a doubt, it's a great experience! I'll be at the Indianapolis GP this fall, last year was a blast!

Glad you got everything sorted and had a good time, looks like a lot of fun!

Re: Austin GP setback

Weather was not too cooperative (nor was your bike), but the races were good! I hope to make it out there sometime. I would love to do a track day there, but man that is a long track!

Mikeo you ARE EVIL!!!! (but thanks for sharing) This also confirms that this track is AWESOME!
You were lapping *almost* as fast as the MOTO GP boys. I think I saw you pass Marquez at least once.... In all fairess you definitely were tearing it up!

Re: Austin GP setback

I wouldn't even call it a setback, I would label it "late routine maintenance"

Must have been a FANTASTIC time Matt!!

And Mike can be subtle, yet very persuasive when trying to motivate

COTA sounds like a trip I would love to make for next years GP WHO'S ON BOARD!!!!!???

Re: Austin GP setback

Dude, that would be a worthwhile trip in my book. I'd certainly be down for that one, even if I couldn't ride the track.
Mike's vids of the Ridge are also pretty persuasive as far as making me want to take a trip out to Washinton as well. Beautiful country and track. So many places, so little cash...

The track is worth every penny, I had a short day though. that video was my second session, I only wound up doing 5, so I did manage to drop a lot of time from that video getting into the 26's, so a couple more sessions and I could have been on Marquezes heels... , but then my day ended, because of this. Brand new wheels too.

but it was cool to be pitting in the same garages that the MotoGp boys used too.

Re: Austin GP setback

Literally rode the wheels off the bike... Nice!
What a facility that track has, wow! I guess when you have Moto GP there, it has to be nice.
I could be on Marquez's heels too, after he lapped me.
What's up with PIG on the # plate?
