Re: Missing Engine Bolt 893

I'll extend this offer to anyone on the forum. If you give me dimensions and I have the bolt/nut/fastener in my pile of accumulated motorcycle bits, I'll send it free + shipping cost. I'll limit the offer to first 2 requests per week as I have a real job and two kids taking up my time.

PM or text specific needs.

that's my worry, but there is some thread showing, so I'm hoping I can get a bolt in there even if I have to space it out with some washers.

Re: Missing Engine Bolt 893

just had another look, the stud's broken off

I've got no choice I'll have try and extrat it could be worse as it's accessible at the back, if I do mess up the thread I can use a long nut and bolt instead, still a bloody pain though.

Re: Missing Engine Bolt 893

Take time, think twice to avoid messing up once......

Possible suggestions would include...

1) drill out with small enough drill to avoid damaging the thread, large enough to use a stud extractor...
2) use a quality drill bit and stud extractor (lubricate the drill bit as you go)
3) plasticine to create a well to soak the stud with penetration oil....
4) heat might break the "seal" most likely formed by corrosion and prior heat...(perhaps a small gas soldering iron will give sufficient heat but also controllability)...
5) good mate to hold the bike steady etc...
6) Be careful of the frame, wiring and petrol tank/pipes.....

Of course, you probably know all this already....

Have fun....

If your mechanic has this equipment out, avoid eye contact and slowly back away.

Re: Missing Engine Bolt 893

The other solution as there is some thread remaining is to leave the broken stud in situ and use a shorter flange bolt I'm sure it's an M10 can anyone confirm?
