Fuel tank leaking…

Hi lads, I have a 1993 RRN Blade and a while back I had the fuel tank treated for corrosion. Ever since getting it back its leaking fuel out of the overflow pipe. I think during the repair they have some how put a hole in the internal pipe that is used for the overflow. Is this repairable??

I'm thinking I could just blank it off at the bottom but I would also have to blank it off at the top to prevent water entering the tank after washing or when raining. Any advice would be great…🙈👍

Re: Fuel tank leaking…

That's a tough one. The real only way to "fix" that is to have the tank cut and split to repair the pipe. And that could be more time consuming and expensive rather than getting a replacement tank.

See if you can determine where the break is by filling the tank to the point of it leaking, see how much fuel you have (for example enough for a daily ride), set your trip meter and use that as your new "full tank" mark. If it's not enough fuel them you'll have to block it top and bottom.

Orrrrrrrr, as I'm now using about 1.5% of my brain, generally there is only a small portion of the tube that actually corrodes away. If you could "snake" a smaller fuel resilient rubber hose up the old wazzoo you could in a sense "resleeve" the tube. That would probably a trick of impossibility though, but hey, I'm thinkin outside the box for once

Re: Fuel tank leaking…

Yep that's my plan at the moment. I intend to run a smaller rubber pipe inside the metal drain pipe. I also intend to use a tank sealer to act as a seal between the hose and the metal pipe. This will hopefully take care of the leak and retain the tank drain function.

Re: Fuel tank leaking…

My worry is that's not really a long term fix, I'd be tempted to replace the tank. I know it's expensive but I wouldn't cut corners with a fuel tank.
