Just received my 520 RK chain / sprocket kit..question?

UPS delivered the 520 RK chain / sprocket conversion - which includes the 16/43 setup. I noticed before I ordered it, that the Ron Ayers site spec'd the chain as being correct lenght for sprockets. My question is ( which will be answered tomrorow when I fit the parts) will I have tire clearance problems now with the 190/50? I plan on going back to the 180/55 after this tire is shot.

I hope not

Re: Just received my 520 RK chain / sprocket kit..question?

I don't think so, as the 16/43 combo is stock gearing. It'll definitely be fine with the 190/50, and I believe the 180/55 as well. I think the problem was with the 180/55 rubbing the swingarm when the overall chain length was shortened, as would happen when using a 16/45 or 15/45 combo. I think the stock chain is 108 links...someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Just received my 520 RK chain / sprocket kit..question?

Yes, 108 links is stock. I went with a conservative gearing change on my 520 conversion. I went with a 16/44 gearing as I could change to the 15/44 later (seems popular for track days). My err, problem? is the 108 links with the one tooth added to rear, the chain adjustment is nearly all the way in (first mark on axle). It looked as if it would be too much to lengthen the chain link count and I would have moved too much in the other direction (if that makes sense). Does this shorten the wheel base and does it have an affect on turning in? I've only had a chance to ride about three times with new 520 setup ($227.00)and I'm still undecided if this was all worth it, I definately could do without the added noise from the AFAM front sprocket. I kind of miss the quiet stock 16t sprocket.

It'll shorten the wheelbase, the 16/44, but not by a huge amount. The 15/44 combo is pretty close to the stock wheelbase. Someone had a chart on this. If I can find it, I'll post it.

Edit: here it is

Thanks HondaGalToo! With that chart can someone help this dummy on setting my Ahlman's Speedo calibrator? I had it set to 8% and that's not right. Stock gearing I had it set to 5% and that seemed accurate. I'm too poor to afford GPS and no friends have one.

Sorry for the threadjack!

That I don't know. With my 15/44 combo, I think I set mine somewhere around 12%, but I don't remember. I set it with a GPS.

I actually have the 15/43 setup...sorry for misinformation in my first post.
I'm about to install it...we'll see how it fits.

Thanks for all the posts / information

With a 15/44 setup I was 14% off using one of those road side radar signs...
