I spent 6 weeks in Russia back in 1992
I was in St. Petesburg, Traveled also just about 20 miles outside of chernobyl and we could see the plant from a tall hill/mountain.
But spent most our time in Murmansk (huge Naval base city were a lot of Subs. Our group was the first American Civilians to ever be on a Russian Naval base, since Russia became a Democracy. We were studying why so many young children in this city were developing such horrible brain cancers and other forms. To find out the Russian Navy was dumping spend nuclear fuel in to the Strait out about 1/2 mile from the city.
