cali bikes

I have a 954 from california, and im just wondering if there is any way i can convert it to a 49 state bike? It sounds like a ****in moped, so im wondering if i can remove the cat or charcoal(heard this somewhere) if it'll give me some more sound. im not real worried about gas mileage, or HP(i hear its 1-2hp loss)...but this thing is so quiet. will removing the cat/charcoal thing give me some extra sound? thanks guys

From my uderstanding you would also have to replace your camshaft and a few other parts for a 49 state engine... You might as well sell yours and then look for an engine on ebay....

Re: cali bikes

yeh its not really a big deal and ill probably end up buying a pipe once i get some money, but until then i was just looking to see if there was a semi-easy and cheap fix to remedy the bike of all the extra emission stuff.

Re: cali bikes

You can remove the emissions stuff but it won't help with the sound

Re: cali bikes

If you wanted something loud and obnoxious, why didn't you get a Hardley instead?

Louder pipes don't make you go no faster, thats what Pa always told me.......

Re: cali bikes

The 49 state bike doesn't sound any different. They are both quiet. Just buy a can if you want more sound. I have both the California and 49 state can and there is no difference in sound at all. The cat is in the can on the ca. model.

Whatever makes you happy brother. I was just jabbin atcha. Actually I wouldn't recommend a Hardley to anyone.

I personally like how quiet the 954 is. I think loud bikes and loud cars suck. I like the quiet and fast stuff. Plus, I really love my hearing and look to protect it as much as I can.

The world is just too damn noisy if you ask me.

Yeah, I said the same thing when I was that age.

Rock on brother, just keep that noisy crap a couple of lanes away from me. These old ears can't handle it.

Re: cali bikes

Removing the charcoal canister is not too big of a deal. It will save maybe 1/2 pound but it will make zero difference in performance. I don't know how you would go about removing the cat unless you were to replace the stock pipe with a slip-on.

The bad old days of California bikes being under powered are over. They're all quiet and fast.

You will be when you're older, trust me! Get in the habit of wearing earplugs, with or without the stock exhaust. I wish I had known to wear earplugs 20 years ago.
