954 has no mid range power

Recent owner of a 954. Got an issue. I have had it Dyno tuned and went through the bike some. Previous owners removed the exhaust flap, removed the air box flapper and cables. No error light so not sure what he did to eliminate it yet. But even with a dyno, I have no power in the 6-7K range. It is incredibly strong up to 6K and if you stay on it (building speed) it will power on through with no difference. But if you are sitting in the 6-7K range and try to throttle in, you get nothing. Super weak. Almost as if you are over loading fuel or something. You can see a MAJOR dip in the Dyno runs at that range. It is consistent every singe run and every time I ride it. So its not something failing, its purposely doing it. I'm at a loss of what to even check since I don't know this bikes history. Its killing me riding as you will try to accelerate and the engine power just isn't there. Any advice or just a hint of what direction I should be looking in?

Re: 954 has no mid range power

Do you have any images of the dyno sheet you can post?

Does the machine have a Power Commander installed?

There's a very good chance that the HTEV and airbox flapper "missing" contributes to the lack of power, but it's difficult to diagnose with the limited information. My RR2 has both of those deleted (and Servo Buddy installed) but doesn't have a "flat spot" anywhere.

I don't have the dyno with me. It does have the PCV installed and tuned.

Re: 954 has no mid range power

I'm guessing its just fuelling. There's normally a flat spot somewhere in the vicinity you describe, as standard, and generally the first time you get the fuelling adjusted with a PC it's fixed. Were you there when they went through the drill?

No, but the guy who does it is very very good. People come from over 100 miles away just to use him. I have absolutely no doubt in his abilities. From what I have read on here I'm thinking something is off in my airbox or a valve setting or something. The downside of buying a used bike you know nothing about.

Re: 954 has no mid range power

What kind of exhaust do you have? To me it sounds more like a mechical or electrical fault. Some sensonr not working properly etc...The HTEV is the exhaust flap.... If anything isn't adjusting it it maybe could cause something like that....

JTI exhaust with the HTEV valve completely removed along with the flapper.

Re: 954 has no mid range power

So you have the HTEV replaced with HASS eliminator or something similar? I haven't ever heard of JTI exhaust and doubt they have made a full exhaust to 954....

its a slip on for sure/

And I don't think it has any type of eliminator that I can see. It looks like the just pulled the guts from the side and bolted a cover over the side. If im looking at it correctly. From more reading it seems that may be my issue since its basically just an open chamber in there now? Basically they just took the flapper and all the guts out and left it hollow. That sound wrong?

Re: 954 has no mid range power

Never seen that happen and doubt it. Why do that when you can just pin the HTEV to certain position. Take the cover of and check the HTEV.
