1993 CBR900 Resto

Hi guys, i'm restoring a 1993 cbr900 back to as close to oem as possible and i have a couple of questions:

I want to check if the wheels are the correct age, is there a part number or date code specifically for the 1993 UK model? It does have a 16inch front but i want to make sure.

The wheels need powder coating, were they gloss black from the factory?

There will be more questions as i go but want to get the wheels sorted first.

Cheers

Chris

Re: 1993 CBR900 Resto

Straightforward!!!

Chris!

I’m not as sure as some of the UK folks are here, but if you have a cable operated speedo drive on your 16” front it’s a proper 93 RRP front. The rims do have designations on them, but sometimes their difficult to decipher.

Yours look a bit gunmetal, so I’m not sure if that was factory for that scheme “over there” or not.

Anyhow, fire away with the questions, I like to think I have all the answers lol, not really, just love carbed blades with an obsessive passion

Chris, they are gloss black from the factory and wet painted. Personally I wouldn't powder coat, it can chip off when the tyres are fitted.

agreed, a decent quality rattle can job would probably do the trick.

front brake discs are impossible to get now unless you buy worn OEM stuff. Fortunately companies like EBC do a decent replica (round disc with gold supports) and their quality is pretty comparable.

that front screen makes my teeth itch though.... please address it.

your rear fender is still stock which is really REALLY rare...... the last one I saw on ebay went for £350 so please don't mess with it. They all got hacksawed to bits in the 90's because people are idiots so now they're hens teeth.

Exhaust is a tad garish.... there's always OEM cans on ebay that just need a sanding and paint coat.

All in all though.... a stunning bike. Don't be afraid of sending it to honda to have a major service, its relatively inexpensive. Mine came back with the motor feeling so crisp and new. They also flagged up that a couple of parts were poor aftermarket additions (for example throttle cable) and replaced them accordingly.

Any questions please ask, like Ian said there's a more than a few carb fanatics on here.
