Stiff Gear Changes

Hi guys, Iíve got a 2005 Fireblade track bike that Iím having issues on the gear shifts.
When selecting gear, it slams into gear and feels like the clutch isnít fully engaged, as it tries to roll forward. Itís also near impossible to reselect neutral unless I turn the bike off. So Iím guessing thatís because itís under load. It has also grabbed false neutral a few times the last time (and first time) I had it out on the track.

I just changed the clutch lever on it and ran it through the gears while on the stand, and the shifts felt smooth, but back on the ground itís needing the brake to stop it from taking off more now than before.

Sheís got a STS Slipper Clutch if that matters.

Now I guess my question is, do you guys think it sounds like my clutch isnít engaging fully to allow smooth shifts, and if so, how can I adjust that? Or, could something else be causing my issue?

Sorry for my ignorance. Just getting into road racing and havenít done much maintenance on bikes as yet.

Cheers for any help you guys can offer.

Turbz

Re: Stiff Gear Changes

Hi, did it do this before you changed the clutch lever, and have you tried bleeding the clutch

Re: Stiff Gear Changes

Yeah it did it before. And no, Iíve not bled the clutch. Like I said, Iíve not done any real motorcycle maintenance before.

Re: Stiff Gear Changes

Okey dokey, when the bike is off the ground, engine running and in neutral, does the rear wheel turn ( it should turn slowly and be able to stop easily by placing your hand on the tyre) or does it race

Re: Stiff Gear Changes

In neutral it doesnít turn. In gear with clutch engaged it races, probably more so with the new clutch lever. But the guy I bought it off said itís normal when the slipper clutch is cold. But itís not something Iím familiar with.
So Iím still assuming the clutch levers, especially the new one, arenít engaging fully by the time itís pulled in against the bar.

Re: Stiff Gear Changes

Yes , there can be a problem with new clutch/brake levers especially if Chinese, but if it was happening before the change, maybe bleeding the clutch line could help, have you got the workshop manual?
