Not the usual second gear issue?

Or is it?

I have an FZR400RRSP that's fitted with a 1st generation Fireblade motor. I have an issue with second gear and I have read quite a lot on this forum and elsewhere about bent selector forks and worn 2nd gear dogs. The majority seem to show the fault by the gearbox jumping out of and staying out of second or by a false neutral when under load. On my bike in second gear as soon as I open up the throttle and the revs start building it jumps out of gear and then bangs straight back in, it will slam in and out until I back off or change up. I was hoping that the jumping out then back in symptom may point to a particular fault (kind oping it is the selector fork). Any ideas?

Nigel

Re: Not the usual second gear issue?

That makes me think it may be a dodgy shift drum. I think they wear heavily at the second gear passage and the fork jumps out. Pull the pan and get a gander from underneath. You can maniplulate the drum with the shift lever to view all the fork passageways.
