Bought a 954

After repairing the transmission on the 929 I mixed up the fuel and VSS connector. Now it's a no start. I've spent about 20 hours so far trying to figure out if I damaged something or if all the corroded connectors are to blame. The clock loses it's time when the key is switched off so next time I work on it I'll try to see why that is.

In the mean time I bought a 954 that spat out a plug because I'm a glutton for punishment. After wrestling a helicoil in, it runs. Needs a bunch of TLC. Some brainiac took a side cutter to the cables for the HTEV and the air box flapper. Feels a little bit weak in the low end but the bike needs a safety check so I can go on the road and really try it out.

Re: Bought a 954

Hi , on the 929 does the pump prime when key in, are the fuses all intact, with the 954 have you tried the exhaust valve in different positions to see whats best for you

I didn't try anything with it yet. Just put the plate on it yesterday and rode it some.

Re: Bought a 954

I forgot to respond about the 929. The PCM does not ground the fuel pump relay wire, so no prime. The fuses are good. There are weak injector, and ignition pulses but not enough to open the injector or make a spark. If I could work out how the clock gets power with the key off vs. key on maybe there is a bad power wire somewhere.

Re: Bought a 954

Hi, regards to 929, have you tried swapping Headlight Relay for the Fuel cut relay, as for the clock, poor spark , is the battery good, is the clock/headlight harness connector ok as regards bad connections

I started with swapping relays but after finding out that the PCM is not grounding the fuel cut relay, there's no point in messing with relays. Battery is new. I made a large wiring diagram that I found on this forum but I need to make another diagram to trace out all the power and ground wires on the display and the PCM. I'm not sure that ignition switch is good either....

Yes that is the diagram I'm using. I have it printed on 24 sheets of paper so I can follow circuits with markers.... Power Commander went in a box 10 years ago. Useless gimmick that it was. As soon as I had charging problems the power commander just added an extra layer of headache. It looked to me as though it didn't remember any fuel map that I loaded onto it. So I have no use for it.

Re: Bought a 954

Hi regarding the 929 , have you checked voltage from the Pink wire from the ignition by back probing connector (ignition on)

This diagram, it donít look right. The text states below 3000 rpm, diag 1, above 8000 rpm diag 2 and above 8000 rpm diag 3. Also diag 3 shows the same restrictions as diag 1. Anyone know whatís what here?

Hi , this isn't the whole story but just a take on where the OP needs the valve position , if you take a look at the H-VIX system that will explain the whole thing better
and a little more fuel to the fire

Thanks thatís very informative. I also have a FZS1000 so Iím aware of the Exup valve but didnít really know what it did in detail, I do now though. With my blade, I feel itís very boggy under 3k then it takes off uncontrollably. Not at all smooth like my Fazer

Re: Bought a 954

Yes with the EGCV taking up a position at low rpm tends to be a bit boggy, that's why a lot of riders take it out ,lock the valve in place for better top end, me, I'm just stock all the way
