Cracked fork cbr 929 fire blade

The bottom of my right fork is cracked just by the pinch bolts under the axle nut. What the chances of the being welded.

I would say thatís knackered, youíd be much better to try and source a good second set of forks rather than try to repair it.

Looks as if the pinch bolts have been massively overtightened, they donít need much, about 16 ft lbs, thatís all.

My non welding knowledge opinion is that anything can be repaired. Aluminum is tricky though, but I would say it can be fixed. You could probably source a lower tube for cheap somewhere and rebuild it. It looks like there was a bolt straight through there? And the helicoil looks like its buggered up. You may have to load it all up with fill, drill, and retap the rearward portion.

I guess it depends on cost, available resources, and time.

Re: Cracked fork cbr 929 fire blade

id go for a good 2nd hand set. there was a recall for cracking on teh forks iirc, unless that was just the 954 version, however the checking wasn't like yours though which looks like brute force!
