CBR 900RR SC28 Wheels

Just brought a 1992 German import sc28 blade, I didn't check my error when I brought the bike but found it has a 17" upgrade front wheel and a rear wheel that matches the front.( both 3 spoke design I,m assuming from the CBR 600 F3 ).
I want to make the bike original and I can find plenty of the earlier wheels available but it seems there were at least three fitments on the SC28 models, does anyone know if there's a specific part number code that's stamped on the wheels to indicate a 2002-2003 fitment so I can source the correct ones.

The rear wheel of the 900 was a 6 spoke 17 x 5.5, so if yours matches the 17" front as a 3-Spoke, the front is not an F3. More likely a VTR1000F US "Superhawk".

You're post is a wee bit confusing though, for us here in the states, anything that is 2002-2003 is a 954, not an SC28. The SC28 ran from 92-95, then in 96 they changed to the SC33 (RRT). There is nothing definitive to indicate the year on a wheel, but the SC28 with the 16" 6 spoke shouldn't be hard to find. The SC28 will have different FRONT variations based only on a few factors.

1) color (all years)

2) speedo gear drive on left hub (93-94 US) (92-93 UK)

3) change to electric speedo on the 95 US model (94 UK model with foxeye headlights and sprocket fed speed sensor).

I hope that kind of helps out.

Post some pics please

Re: CBR 900RR SC28 Wheels

Easiest solution is to stick a matching original set on, despite all the hype, they ride perfectly OK with 16” front wheel. I’ve had both and I can’t tell a lot of difference.

Re: CBR 900RR SC28 Wheels

Sorry just realised I mistyped in 2002-2003 , I meant 1992-1993.
Thanks for the excellent info, are there any differences on the rear wheel on the SC28 models or are these all the same.

There are slight differences in the SC33 rear wheels. for the SC28, 92-95 should all work with no problems. The SC33 changed a bit with the space between the swingarm, so the spacers spacers are a different length on the sprocket side, and the sprocket carrier spacer is different.

Re: CBR 900RR SC28 Wheels

Found a set of wheels which are meant to be early fireblade . In the centre of the spoke on the front wheel is a stamp number 93. Any chance that this relates to the year.

Re: CBR 900RR SC28 Wheels

Would you say these are 1992-93 fitment wheels.

Re: CBR 900RR SC28 Wheels

My 94 VFR750F (same as the F3 and NC30 wheels) wheel that I used as my 17" replacement has this stamped on it.

So that led me to believe that the stampings mean nothing.
