I'm trying to figure out a new whinning noise after replacing the stator on my 05 fireblade. In the middle of the image is that the starter reduction gear I need to pull out and reinstall? I didn't mess with it the first time.
Looks like its an oil galley plug. Partzilla shows it's held in with an o-ring. The is also one in the same spot on the other side of the bike.
The only reason the starter gear needs to be messed with is if you can't line the cover up with the dowel pin for the idler gear.
I know on my older 900RR the starter spun one way, and the idler another and it was a pain in the ass to get the dowel in with each gear moving in the opposite direction.
I would imagine that if messed up the installation the starter would bind or not work at all. Is it a gear whine or a metal on metal whine (as if the flywheel is hitting the stator windings?
Got any better pictures?
