What sprockets for a 929?

I have the stock sprockets on my 929 and was wondering what would be the optimum sprocket tooth change for both front and rear sprockets? I noticed on a trackday someone had the same bike as mine with similar mods. In the front straight at T-Hill, I noticed the other 929 started pulling away from me. The guy told me that he changed the oem sprockets on his bike for ones that with had a different number of teeth and that may have something to do with it. He said that since he does not have any need to take his bike all the way to 175 or more, it just made sense to him to lower top speed for more grunt. Any suggestions?

Re: What sprockets for a 929?

some of the members drop 1 tooth off the front sprocket to get best results.
it is equivalent to adding approx 3 teeth to the rear, but you need a well worn or longer chain to add the teeth.

Do unto others, before some prick does it to you!

Re: What sprockets for a 929?

I tried the (530) 15 tooth front and stock 43 tooth rear. I didn't care for it, too hyper for me. I really liked the stock gearing and I went awhile on that. I recently changed to a 520 chain with a conservative 16 tooth front and 44 tooth rear (added 1 tooth to rear). I'm getting used to it now and the gearing change is noticable although I just ordered the stock 43 tooth rear 520 to go back to stock gearing. I like the smoother/longer stock gearing versus the faster/gruntier/more shifting gearing. Since the track is a different story you may adjust differently per track if you are that serious about it. I ride mostly street with some track days thrown in. Personal preference I guess.

I run 16/45 520, It seems to be a good balance for most tracks I run.

I have 15/44 on my 929, and I'd say don't go that far. I'm going to drop back to 16/44 when I get my tires changed next. 1st gear just wants to loop you.

One down in the front to a 15 toof, (or toofies), will give you a little more pulling power.

I like 16/45 with the stock chain, on the 520 I used 16/46...wasnt too steep for everyday use (at least for me)
