Oil leaking from left case, Please Help????

I just bought this bike from a private owner and discovered that
when the bike was laid down once, the left side lower case was
broken and was replaced, but when they replaced it they welded the
broken peice and put the new cover on, but I guess it was a shitty
weld and it still leaks, where the cover meets casing, right along
the seem, not much, just enough to make a 3 inch mark on cardboard
sitting for 3 days and the piece is part of the lower engine which
cannot be replaced without replacing the whole engine, so you can
see my problem, 3000 dollars in repairs and parts or rigging it
someway so it won't leak, the place I went has really good mechanics
and they are going to try to put 2 gaskets and bead some silicon to
fix the problem. Does anyone else have any other ideas, such as JB
weld, maybe just goop it on the leak, if you have any suggestions
please reply, please, please, please because I still want to keep
the bike, that is the only thing wrong with it they said. The bike has 9000 miles on it, bumblebee colored.

Sucks, man. You could try gooping it and see if that helps. Did the seller tell you it was crashed/repaired?

Just put a bead of high temp silicon on it, it should seal up.

Re: Oil leaking from left case, Please Help????

Salvage title means it was totalled. Not that totalling it means it exploded, but it needed EXPENSIVE repairs.

Seriously, try the sealant. It's good stuff. Mine was called "High temperature silicone gasket maker".

My truck has a slow oil leak. I put a quart in it every once in a while. It runs fine.

What is the type and brand you use to seal it, I asked the guy if anything was wrong with the bike and he said no, he said the fairings are the only thing that it needed so that is the only major thing he mentioned. I thought that would cause the salvaged title.

Re: Oil leaking from left case, Please Help????

It's definitely possible to total a bike from only body damage. It would have to be a lot, though. If you go to a hardware store and tell the oldest man there you want some high-temp silicone sealant to fix an oil leak, he'll know what you mean.

I have to find mine...

Re: Oil leaking from left case, Please Help????

That's the same deal with my CBR900, I got it knowing full well the case was busted..got it welded, (had to take the motor out) and draw filed it flat again with the rest of the case. Still leaked with a new gasket, so I went to a local auto parts store, got some Brakleen, (a cleaner/solvent) and some black gasket maker(silicone) and laid a bead around the case, after cleaning it with the solvent, put the gasket on my new cover, and installed. let set for 1/2h, then put oil in. No leaks, used a putty knife to scrape off excess silicone..looks fine, no leaks!

Send that bike back to the the seller.. He didnt disclose that info to you in the sale why should you have to invest your money in fixing it.. you can find plenty of other bikes with no problems
