What % octane for u?

What kind of octane gas are most of you running? I live in Canada and the highest I can get is 92.....is that the same everywhere? If not would it make a huge difference??? Also....what do you guys think of octane boost....would it hurt the engine?

The reason I ask is I have an '03 954 w/ PCIII USB....15T front sprocket....Jardine RT-One slip on....and it is still only possible to do power wheelies in second if I sit back on the seat....no way I'd ever get a power wheelie in third...yet I read on other posts and boards that some guys claim they can do power wheelies in second no problem on a stock '03 954...

If so mine should have a little more power tehn what it does...with everything I have...shouldn't it?

Re: What % octane for u?

I have run VP C-12 (113 octane) in mine just because I had some laying around. Other than smelling good I couldn't tell any difference between that and pump gas (92).

Re: What % octane for u?

You get the most power with the lowest octane you can run without the bike pinging. Hondas usually only require 87. The only way you get more power from high octane fuels is if its oxygenated fuel. VP fuels or Nutec, makes good fuels. But you can't leave it in your tank for extened periods of time.

I usually run 89, whenever I'm on the street. And Nutec on the track.

The manual for the 954 says "minimum of 86octane fuel"...............I was shocked when I read that a bike like that is designed to run on such low octane fuel, but I guess modern engineering and computers make it possible. If Honda says it will run fine on 86 octane I believe them. I have put 87, 89 and 91 in mine and cannot tell the difference.....except in my pocket

I just took my RS50 out of storage gets over 50 mpg so once I get that cleaned and running I'll use that to commute, I have 2 trucks, one I want to keep the milage down on, and the other gets horrbile gas milage so time for the 50.

I'm not sure but I think the octane ratings are different in Canada and the US.

Actually they are different from gas station to gas station.

I was amazed when I first moved here from Florida that 99% of the gas stations in town have a minimum octane rating of 91 for the high test stuff. In Florida it was 93 almost everywhere you went.

But then again, gas is a lot less expensive here than it is in Florida.
