FI light and red light on, PC3 problem? help

Hey guys,

I am new to the forum, just bought an 01 929, it has a PC3, full devil exhaust. Riding home yesterday, the FI light came on and a red light on the dash. It has run fine in the 1000 miles I have put on it in a week (heeheeee) but coming home they just came on. It seems to be running ok, perhaps misfiring a bit. I dont have the manual to the PC3, could it be this? I have read about them losing their maps. The only work I have done on it is changed the oil (removed headers), coolant, and bled the brakes. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Does the FI light blink? If it does it's an error code. Someone with a manual here can tell you the code if you count the blinks (long and short).

The red light does blink, 3 times slow then 5 x fast. It repeats this cycle.
thx

If you're a HRCA member...you should be if you bought your bike brand new, if your dealer processed the paperwork...you can access your service manual from the HRCA website.

Anyway, the error code 35 (3 long, 5 short blinks) shows a Faulty EGCV and air intake valve servo motor.

You mentioned you removed the headers to change your oil? Maybe you repositioned the servo motor in the process? Give that a check first.

Re: FI light and red light on, PC3 problem? help

I think that's my old 929

I miss it already

Like HondaGal said I would check the servo position, I never had a flashing FI light on the bike. I did have the light come on once while riding after I put in the PC3 but it went away when I turned the bike off and back on.

In the future I wouldn't go though the headache of taking the headers off for an oil change. I used a metal oil filter wrench I bought a autozone, looks like a rounded set of pliers. Works great!

One more thing...Kookie posted these details which may help you with the servo position:

"check the position of the HTEV servo motor (left-side of bike, just aft of the mid-fairing). Ensure the allen screw is facing outward, perpendicular to the bike."

Re: FI light and red light on, PC3 problem? help

Anyone have a pic of the servo motor. I looked in the manual for pics (nothing of course) so not sure what to look for and how it should be positioned.

Thanks

Re: FI light and red light on, PC3 problem? help

The cables from the HTEV will run into it. If you kneel on the left side of your bike (rider's view) with the body panels removed, the servo will be up around your left shoulder area around the air box. It's not hard to see. Hope that helps. There will be 2 cables that twist around it. If you turn your ignition on (no need to start the bike), you'll see it move.

Re: FI light and red light on, PC3 problem? help

If it is a ca. model and you have a full exhaust then the 0-2 sensor is not connected and the f.i. light will come on intermitently and sometimes steady. dynojet sells a eliminator which consists of a simple resistor that plugs in where the old plug used to go. some members on this forum have just went to radio shack and put the correct resistance resistor jumpered in the plug , but for 16 dollars you can get one that plugs right in and is watertight and takes care of the f.i and red light forever.

Re: FI light and red light on, PC3 problem? help

So, I cant seem to find this servo motor. I pulled the mid left fairing and cant seem to find what I 'believe' I am looking for. Is it a small (D cell) battery looking device? Since I dont know what the HTEV looks like, I cant determine it from that either. (I know I need a service manual and I promise to get one as soon as this baby is fixed) Does anyone have a pic I an look at?

Thanks
