Re: 929, 954 front brake master cylinder piston size.

First Post, Learned this while researching a master cylinder for my buddy's R1 race bike (for less money than a brembo radial&#33. 929 has a 19mm bore, and 954 has 17mm bore. 929 caliper pistons are 36mm and 30mm, 954 are 34mm and 30mm. I don't remember if caliper measurements are correct but 954 is 2 mm smaller on the upper piston. I work at a honda- yamaha dealership so I have access to trivial things such as this! by the way a 02 R1 master cylinder is 14mm!!!

Re: 929, 954 front brake master cylinder piston size.

Thanks rrfiddyf5 and abtech.

Very helpful info.

Unfortunately stupid me bought a 954 master off ebay thinking it was the same size as a 929. Since it was from a dismantler I asked if they could send a 929 one instead if they had it. Otherwise I will try and do a trade, swap with a local wrecker.

Thought the lever travel was a bit too much with the GSXR master with its 5/8 piston size.

Thanks again.

Any reason the 929 has the larger master cyl?

Re: 929, 954 front brake master cylinder piston size.

19mm? Can that be right? Can someone with a manual confirm that? It seems odd to me that Honda would go from a 5/8' - 15.9mm (CBR900) to a 19mm, and then back to a 17mm on the 954. Although the 17mm seems more plausible.

I'm thinking of fitting a CBR master to my VFR800 (currently 1/2' - 12.7mm), and am having a beast of a time finding what sizes they are.

Thanks for any help!!

Re: 929, 954 front brake master cylinder piston size.

ManaBurrn, I measured the 954 piston and it is 17.35 mm.

The 929 looks bigger from the outside but that is only a guestimate.

rrfiddyf5, or any one else can confirm the caliper piston sizes. It looks as though I bought 954 calipers off Ebay but I think they were sold to me as 929. The pistons are close enough to 34 and 30 mm. Maybe the 954 might be 32 & 30?

Re: 929, 954 front brake master cylinder piston size.

I just checked Ron Ayers and they have different part numbers for the calipers (seals, pistons, etc) but they are on the same microfiche page. I don't know about the caliper piston size differences but I will try to measure mine (1 929 caliper, 1 954 caliper) over the next week or so (I need to pull the wheels off the bike anyway).

FYI, I didn't order enough seals when I rebuilt my calipers so I could only do 1 of them. I had to do some side work for a salvage yard and picked up a 954 caliper for the 929 so I would have a complete set of good calipers that didn't stick. It bolts right on and I had good braking power during my races. If they are different sizes then I don't know that you will notice much, however, if you can wait though this week then I will attempt to measure both the 954 and the 929 caliper pistons for comparison.

Re: 929, 954 front brake master cylinder piston size.

Thanks lfg929.

My local Honda dealer didn't have the seals in stock so no luck. I have not called the Honda distributor directly as I thought it may be easier for me to find the answer here.

Thanks again, Craig.
