More questions about damper install

So I finally get some time to install my GPR steering damper for my 03 954. I take a good look at the stock steering stem
nut and notice it is snugged up nicely in a recess in the upper triple clamp. I then look at the bottom of the base of the
steering damper (picture attached). The base does not fit into the recessed (countersinked) space but instead will sit
flush on the triple clamp (but raised a bit to boot). I think to myself, "no big deal."
But then I look at the nut that came with the GPR and see that the base of the GPR won't even work well as a washer for the provided stem nut (picture attached) since the nut is just a bit small to sit completely flush with the base of the damper. Since
the nut is aluminum it will defintely warp as I torque it down. Does anyone have a picture of how the mounted base of a GPR damper is supposed to look on a 954? I am wondering if I have the correct model of GPR for my 954.

Yep, that is what mine looks like. Was wondering if anyone had pictures of just the base mounted so I could see the nut with the base attached on the triple tree.

Re: More questions about damper install

IIRC, theres a washer under the stock nut, perhaps you leave that in position?

Re: More questions about damper install

Here are some more pictures from the GPR damper installation. From left to right.

1. Picture of stock stem nut, loosened, just to show that the washer is attached to the nut
and to show the well on the triple clamp where the stock stem nut rests when tightened.

2. Picture of stem without nut to show the well.

3. Picture of GPR base with nut hand tightened. Notice that only about half of the threads on the
GPR provided nut are used and even if I torque down the nut I may get a couple more threads.
For this aluminum nut that is not going to cut it.

So, I am asking once again. Is this what it is supposed to be for an 03 CBR954RR GPR damper?
Did I get the correct base with nut? Anyone out there install a GPR damper on an 03 954?

Help a butha out.

Re: More questions about damper install

I think you're the only one who has a GPR damper which is probably why no one here has any first hand knowledge. I'd think the nut should be as you think too. I'd question whether you got the correct mount. Have you discussed it with the dealer who sold it to you? That's where I would go first.

Re: More questions about damper install

You can try contacting them, but I haven't had any luck there.

I was talking to GPR for about a year while they were producing a version for the RC51 and older 900RR which needed a new fairing stay to mount their units. We had a deal to do some testing for him but then all of a sudden they severed all contact. When I saw him at Laguna last year, he apologized for not getting back to me and promised to make good once he got back home. That was over a year ago and he never returned any correspondence.

So anyway, good luck trying to work it out with them. Let me know if they do good and help you out.

Re: More questions about damper install

Good to know about GPR guys. I didn't know that they were a rarity
for the 954. I was hoping someone here had some experience with
them but I will forge ahead and see what I can do.
I may have to get the base mount machined and maybe even get a nut
machined that will work as I would expect it to. Worse case is I just
send the thing back and get a Scotts. Seems a lot of folks here have the
Scotts damper and like them.

Re: More questions about damper install

Ha. I just called GPR. They have confirmed that I got a GSXR baseplace and
that is why it doesn't fit correctly. They are sending me out a new baseplate ASAP. I will post how it turns out.
