1000RR front brakes

After doing a few track days on the 1000RR I noticed the brake lever would come progressively closer and closer to the grip. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen besides air in the lines?

I installed braded steel lines and used a mityvac to get the lines filled and then bled the conventional way. The bleeder on the banjo bolt near the brake lever will give up a few bubbles EVERY time I do it even though it's been bled dozens of times.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you keep getting air in your lines it sounds like you have a leak and will have to re-install the lines.

You should have bought an R1. It is so amesome it doesn't even need braided lines.
In fact, it will keep itself bled at all times and the magic yamaha brake fluid recycles itself, so no need to ever service the brakes.
All this with a minimum of 180 bhp!!

Have exactly the same problem even though we use Castrol SRF and braided hoses . Pad wear is fairly high too . Just over 1000 miles (all on track) now and have now gone through our second set of standard Honda pads .
Doing superstock ,we can't change master cylinder or discs and at present EBC etc. have no alternative.
Like you ,we just have to bleed before each race day .

Search for a few of the threads that detail a full bleed procedure. If you follow the instructions exactly, you won't have bubbles coming out of the banjo bleeder everytime you open it. If you have bubbles at the MC, then you aren't half way through the job. Ditch the Mity-Vac and do it right . . .

The combo of the stock master and stock lines is a guarantee lever to the grip setup at the track. I found myself getting worried about whether I would make it through the day. I think it is a combo of line flex, a cheap master cylinder, and overheated fluid.

After installing steel braided lines, the problem has minimized. I am thinking about a Brembo master though.

Thanks for all the replies. The fluid now appears to be coming out bubble free, I'll see if perfromance has improved any during the next track day.

Hi at all,

one thing at first, my english is not very good.

i have the problems with the brakes of the cbr 1000 rr since 2004.
On the street and also on the race track. In the worsest case i had no brake. nothing.
i made alot of tests. but it´s hard for me to describe it all in english.
only a small summary of the tests.

it have nothing to do with air in the brake fluid
it have nothing to do with hoses and so on. i changed everythink of this brake.

i think the problem is coming out of the tockico clippers in combination with the brake pads.

The brake pads are to long. they have no space in the clippers. Look on a brembo P4 clipper. they have alot room for the dust.

In Germany we think to chance the pistons of the clippers can make a change.

Look although ZX 10 R and GSXR 1000 05-06. They have the fu... Tockico´s

I wrote about this problem since 2004 with Honda Germany.
But nothing happend. I´m the only person with this Probs

An other possiplity is to change the clipper to the clippers of an R1 Mod. 2004. But you have to modificate it. They will fit on the fork, but you have to make some changes for the rotors.

For me i found the soloution. Öhlins fork with Brempo P4 Clippers.

But i can´t understand why ? But this is an other story.

In Germany normaly no one will talk about this problem, because there is no problem ????????????

My German is worse (and english fairly bad ) so no worries.

Does the brake fade to no brakes or is no brakes the condition all the time? Did you check your rotor for warping?

Hi again,
know i stopped working.

The problem with the brake have nothing to do with fading.

It´s jumping around with no possible sense.
at one day all look fine.
at the next day you have a big problem between two corners.
i had alwas a bad feeling by braking. i often braked only to see what´s going on and to be sure that this brake will work.

the orignal brakesystem is not clear and not reproducable.

Since i changed to the Brembo´s i´m very save by ridig. it have nothing to do with the name brembo.
If there is some one who want to know more about my test´s please let me know.

hi gang, '05 cbr1000rr, brembo calipers, pads, & discs, plus master & steel lines will solve ANY braking problems. R-1? nah, don't think so. i'll keep my honda quality, thanks!
