954 enine in a 929 frame

Can it be done? My friend just picked up a high mileage 929 and has a extra 954 engine. Any one done this yet?

Re: 954 enine in a 929 frame

I think the mounting points on different on the 954. With that said, anything can be modified to fit, bracket and braces.

Re: 954 enine in a 929 frame

It's done quite easily, I did it a while back. Engine bolts right up, swingarm bolts right on. You'll have to modify the wiring harness for the bank angle sensor, it's located under the seat on the 929 but it's behind the headlights on the 954. The gauges are not interchangeable. If you're using the bigger 954 throttle bodies, they don't seat perfectly into the 929 airbox and the 954 airbox won't fit under the 929 fuel tank. Everthing else was plug and play if I remember correctly. Good luck!!

Re: 954 enine in a 929 frame

If you don't want to deal with the bank angle sensor you can bin it and jumper the harness. Although I know some people are scared to death to operate without it, I took it off my 929 (street) and F4i (track) with no problems. I even crash tested my track bike twice with no drama what so ever.

Re: 954 enine in a 929 frame

I did the reverse to what you're doing, i gat a 01 929 engine in a 954 frame...everything lined straight up, except I had to change the subframe and rear cowl section, the airbox had to be changed along with the tank being changed to 954.... the bank angle sensor was the only problem, I monted it using tie straps to the part that is attached to fairing clip on the left hand side, and haven't had any problems with it yet.... however I don't do any wheelies or stoppies yet though!

Re: 954 enine in a 929 frame

I have a 929 with a 954 motor in it, and it has all the other stock 929 parts, guages, etc. Swap wasn't hard at all, its the same motor just punched out a bit

Re: 954 enine in a 929 frame

Ok, so if I have a 929 bare motor and swingarm, could I use all the rest of the 954 stuff and bolt the engine and swingarm right up?

No, you won't have to change the PC. You're not changing the ECU.
