Is it Battery or Charging System ?

I used to be able to leave the bike for a week or more (not by design) and it would start fine. But the last few weeks if it goes more than 3 or so days the battery is flat, run it every day no issue. Now my feeling is it's the battery since the charge only lasts a few days, but could it be the charging system not fully charging the battery ?

So any quick tests I can do before I go and spend ?

Magic.

Re: Is it Battery or Charging System ?

definately sounds like a battery issue. but if you know you aren't going to ride that much a $25 battery tender is a worth while investment...

Re: Is it Battery or Charging System ?

Lift the seat, take a multimeter, start the bike, ref up to about 300RPM measure the battery terminals,if the charging voltage is between 13.2VDC and 14VDC then the charger is ok.Sounds like the battery has left the building. How old is the battery?

Re: Is it Battery or Charging System ?

Battery is a little over 2 years old. Though I know battery life varies greatly.
Thing that gets me is this is how I remember batteries of old failing (slowly) and not at all like modern day car units which usually just stop working.

I'll measure the voltage this weekend (after a full weeks usage), and if it reads around that value I'll pop out and grab a new one.

Thanks

Re: Is it Battery or Charging System ?

I had the same problem, I would jump start the bike then ride all day. The next day it would be dead. A new battery fixed it, no problems since!

I had my Ascot battery do this then suddenly stop working exactly one fuel tank from home. I had to get a jump and keep it running all the way home. So I recommend you not play with fire and install a new battery.
