It was at Willow Springs International Raceway near Palmdale California.
(The big track) What an experience. It is so much nicer not to have to
worry about auto traffic or various road hazards like sand or rocks. My 954
performed well. I am newbie to track riding so I am sure I didn't push
my 954 to anywhere near its potential. It was still fun none-the-less. The only bikes to pass me on the straights were a Busa, a R1, GSXR-1000, and a RC51 (race ready). In the corners it was a different matter. I was getting passed by all kinds of bikes.
I have to learn to ride better. But I also have to get my bike to a tuner. It should have been pulling harder out of the corners. I attribute that to the altitude at which WSIR is located. And since I ride at those altitudes a lot I need to get tuned for it. Now, I am definitely considering not riding my 954 on the street anymore. It just won't be as fun. But I guess that is what my cruiser is for.
I did have a couple close encounters. I went wide and went off the track twice. Both times I just road it out and got back onto the track. Those of you who pooh-pooh steering dampers are nuts. My GPR steering damper saved me thousands of dollars today. Hitting the soft (e.g. sand, rocks, gravel) shoulders could have really done a number on me and the bike but the bike drove steady as can be and the result is not a scratch. That damper was/is worth every penny I paid for it.
That's all for now. I go back again tomorrow.
