question for pre 2000 blade owners..

I have a 97 blade and I notice that the bike struggles to accelerate when under 4000rpms in any gear... well i don't care about 5 or 6 but just doesn't feel right for a 918cc motor. I know it's not a spark or air issue, probably just too much fuel, judging by the more than average carbon build up on the edge of my exhaust tip, however, i just wanted to hear from other blade owners if the bike has any issues getting going below 4000rpms...

Well I have a 2001 and my below 4000 with the HTEV mod dropped a bit.. and is still a tad sluggish but when it hits 3500 to 4000 and above it pulls like a raped ape. Have you tried changing jetting or something to lean it out a bit?

I haven't re-jetted yet, I am keeping it in mind, not sure if the hesitation is normal or not and wanted to base it on other's opinions prior to ripping the tank off.
