Bike wont start

Dammit!

OK...So my bike is all nekkid and stuff cuz Im in the process of paint and such. I go out to the garage today to start it up and take her for a spin around the block all street-fighter and ****...Only one thing...

I turn the key and they neutral light comes on...Cool...

I notice that my fuel pump doesnt kick on...Hmmm...

I check the kill switch and its in the "run" position...

I try to crank the bugger over and NOTHING...

I dunno whats goin on? I checked my fuses and they are all fine. All the wires are good. Kickstand wiring is fine...WTF???

I tried hookin up my headlight to see if that would come on when I turned the key on and that didnt work either...?

Any ideas to help me get this right would be appreciated cuz this sucks!

Re: Bike wont start

Its the battery. Get a battery tender and charge it. Then when your done riding hook the Battery Tender up and you'll be ready to ride next time. The small batteries on bikes don't seem to hold a charge to long.

A dead battery would cause the fuel pump to not run? The gauges light up and everything it just wont turn over...

If you have a volt meter, check the battery, should read 12volts or higher. If it reads under 12( Like 11 or 11.5 )you need to charge it.

Give me a little more history.
Did the bike run ok before you did you work?
How long has it sat without riding?
how old is the battery?

Re: Bike wont start

It does sound like a battery problem or the connectors on the battery are loose/dirty. try cleaning them as well.

Even though the lights turn on it doesnt rule out a problem with the batt. and do what oldgoat said if you have access to a multimeter.

Re: Bike wont start

Well I messed with the tip over switch and go the fuel pump to turn on, I just cant get the bike to turn over...

Its been sitting for about 2 weeks or so. Im gonna check the voltage tonight and see what its reading...The thing is, when I try to start it I dont get a click or anything...I wonder if its something electrical I might have unplugged or loosened when I took the plastic off?

As far as the battery its as the stock on that came with the bike...

I also tried plugging the front lamp assmbly back in and the lights didnt come on when I turn the ign. on...

Re: Bike wont start

Have you checked your battery yet? 'Cause it's probably - - - batttttttttery. Amazing how many problems are solved with the addition of a new battery - they can cause an amazing plethora of problems.

Re: Bike wont start

Check the wires going into the key drum. I once had a problem where one of the wire inside broke off the PC board and had to resolder it. Wasn't exactly the same symptoms you are having, but close to them.

Re: Bike wont start

I got a very similar problem. I just changed the forks and left clipon on my 954. all the fairings are off. I basically turn the key, the cluster lights up but the bike doesn't do its ignition cycle, you don't hear the fuel pump prime. The bike is in neutral, the stand is up and the kill switch is on but still no fuel pump sound. If i hit the starter the bike turns over but no fuel is being fed. any ideas anyone?
