929 tank removal

Is there a way to take the tank off without spilling any gas? As soon as I crack the banjo bolt on the pressurized line, it starts to spill. Is there a shutoff valve some where?

Re: 929 tank removal

Nope... Need to drain the tank first. If you're going to be doing it a lot, you may want to install some quick-disconnect thingies.

ditto; use a margarine container or something to catch the last bit - it helps to have another hand to hold everything.

Re: 929 tank removal

You could also use any sort of small clamping device (needlenose vise grips with tubing covering the ends, carpentry clamps, etc), or plug the hose ends with something like bolts/pen caps/etc after you pinch them and disconnect them.

Re: 929 tank removal

Do you HAVE to remove the tank for some reason? Most normal maintenance can be done by tiping the tank up on it's "tail" and tying it off. There used to be a pic in the KB section of this technique.

Re: 929 tank removal

You should be able to just unbolt it and prop it up. Some of the 929's had a short (too short, 'cause it was recalled) fuel line to the tank though, so be careful you don't pull too hard...

I don't know if the recal has been done on my bike. They punch the frame if they do right?

(don't mind the 900 directory, its the 929)

Re: 929 tank removal

Not all 929's had the short hose. Just lift the tank carefully and you should be able to tell if the hose begins to bind.
