929 won't start. Help!

Sequence of events:

-929 battery is low/dead from lack of use.
-Tried to bump start but couldn't get enough speed.
-Put 929 on battery tender for 2 days to charge.
-Light green, charged battery.
-Take battery tender off, bike starts just fine.
-Put the battery tender back on just in case.
-Next day, remove battery tender.
-Bike turns over and over and over, no ignition.

-Checked all fuses, everything fine.
-Lights come on
-Fuel pump comes on.
-Battery is charged.

WTF? Anyone have a next course of action? What should I test next? I have a multimeter but just unsure of direction to go with this. Could I have blown my ECM? I figured the fuse would have blown if a surge went to the ECM. I don't see any error codes when I turn the bike to on but I'm not sure if they display like that or if you need a Honda diagnostic computer. Help!

Re: 929 won't start. Help!

What's the voltage out of the battery ... if you don't charge it?

Re: 929 won't start. Help!

You should not need anything extra to read the fault codes.. You can read the number of short and long blinks in the oil pressure/FI light (the red one)

I would go for a new battery first. Even if it cranks the engine, it might not have enough power to the FI/ingition system.. ? There have been many strange problems which have been solved with a new battery.

Hope you can fix it fast and not to expensive!!

Re: 929 won't start. Help!

I don't have a digital mutli-meter but the voltage is a little over 12v. Perhaps you are right about the battery. I just charged it fully and tried to start it. It cranked a couple times and ignited for probably 1 or 2 revolutions and then died again. Then I couldn't get it started after that. Not enough output?

No blinking on the red light or the FI light. At start up the FI is on, then it goes off and the red check engine light comes on and stays on....no blinks.

Battery runs down pretty quickly when I am cranking the engine too so I bet it would be the battery. Since I tested it after charging it I bet it's putting out a false signal... Not really holding any juice.

I'll vote battery too. It's the price we pay for light weight.

Yeah, I should be thankful it's not something more expensive. Just to be sure I have a Kragen right around the corner. I'll have them load test the battery and then ditch it. Aren't you supposed to replace those things every 3 years or so anyway?

Re: 929 won't start. Help!

I pulled my battery out the other day for winter and it appears to be the original. Threw it on the charger and I checked it a few hours later and it was fully charged. looks like the previous owner kept it up pretty good.

if you can't convince them, confuse them.

Re: 929 won't start. Help!

If you winterize your bike, a battery tender or some other intellegent charger will pay for itself the first Winter IMHO.

That's a fact! shrub, count me in with the others who suggest a new battery.

Re: 929 won't start. Help!

Had the battery tested....it's fine. Now I guess I will check for spark? Pull a plug, ground it and check for spark. If I got no spark then it's the coil?

Strange! Your bike has separate coils for each cylinder, and they are built into the sparkplug caps. They are activated by the ECM. You could always pull a plug and see if you have nice powerful spark but I doubt if all the coils are broken. If you have a good spark, the next step would be to check if the injectors are activated so the engine gets fuel.

With fuel, ignition, correct engine timing and compression it should start..

Best of luck!

Regardless of the load test, I would be highly skeptical of a battery that is showing ca. 12V.
