My new toy

02 954 with 1500 miles. It was bought new in april 04 so still has 4 months of the factory warranty left. Completly stock except for the fender was removed, tank bra and I painted the windscreen yesterday. Not a scratch. I stole this thing

The only complaints are the temp rises really fast, the seat is like a brick and the 1rt gear power is a little unmanagable to me right now. I revved it in first this morning for the first time to about 7k rpms with a full tank of gas and all my 190 lbs on the front and it still felt like it came about a foot off the ground.

Other than that it hangs the curves better than my r6 did, is a hell of a lot faster and just alot more fun. The best bike I have owned so far.

Re: My new toy

good buy, hope you got the faster gry/blk color.

if you already havent done so, do the flapper mod before changing the stock can. that way you can really hear the motor suck air!!

seat is the same on the '03. takes some time to get used to but i cant wait to find a good deal on a corbin.

The temp rises fast and overheats or it just rises fast?

Remember, you are on a open class bike, not a 600 anymore. The power comes in MUCH earlier so playing around in 1st can get you hurt. You now have a FI system that reacts instantly. Many people coming from a bike with carbs(carbs react slowly), feel its very abrupt. Its just something that is tuned they way it should be, it's people that have to change. You have to be much smoother on the throttle now. Have fun with it but be careful.

I got the fastest red and black color . The temp rises fast but it hasnt overheated yet. Just sitting at a redlight it runs in the 200s. The fan has come on a few times also. I will hate to see how fast how it rises in the South Georgia summer heat.

I have ordered a sargent seat,a bolt on, and some gel grips. Thats probably all I will do to it. Just got to buy some more gear now to match. I got a pair of alpinestars sp-2s off ebay for $30 new in the package. All I need is a mesh summer jacket and I will be done.

Re: My new toy

Congrats!

Get HondaCare (probably from BVH where it's fairly cheap) before the four months are up

That is normal my fan always comes on at 207 when sitting in traffic. It usually runs about 180's while moving at 40+ mph.

So tell us how much did you pay? We love to here about a good deal.

Re: My new toy

Mine runs about 180, 178. The fan doesnt come on till around 215.

I got it for $6100, which I think is a pretty good deal considering the age and the mileage.

Well as long as its not running 235+ you are ok. No airflow no cooling. I have seen 220ish while sitting in 100deg weather and no overheating probs.

i've seen 250ish on mine and another 954 mid-summer (on the same group ride), no problems except for my nuts boiling in their sack.

You shouldn't have a problem at all with the heat. I hang at the 220 range at stop lights in the 115+ summer here in Arizona.

Oh yeah, great to see that you got the faster Black/Red color! Welcome!!
