saving for a 954

Well im saving for a 954 and i'm already thinking of what can be done to the bike to bring its fullist potential. Any Ideas. I'm open to critism also don't worry. My buddy's that both have 04 r1's said the 954 is crap. I tend to show them differently. But my quetions are as followed. Brakes are they good. Or do you think they could use an improvement and if so what do you recomand. Not really worried to much about the suspenion.. heard its good. Lights cause i like to see far ahead of me...the brighter the better. Exhaust from the header all the way back. and any other good mods to do to the bike...and remeber keep in mind. not rich. But i just want to show them one day that my bike is no slouch. And there R1's honestly are fast. not going to lie. But for the most part not worring about them just the bike to start out with. Anyways have a good night everyone. and if theres anything i can help you with feel free to ask. And I work for directv so if you have any questions about that.(minus the free cards)I'll help you with that. Anyways thanks again.

You need some new friends! The 54 is one badass bike! the brakes are some of the best in the biz.Power may be alitle down compared to the R1.But,It has more than enough power. I dont have enough balls to use it to its fullest

Forget all of this and learn to ride. You could spank your friends in some turns on a 250 if you know what you are doing. The 954 isn't crap by any means. It's a great bike. First bike, then get a SV650, it's a great bike and the only one I think Suzuki made that I would buy.

Re: saving for a 954

The 954 has probably more power than either you or your friends can truly handle, but if you want to be quicker without any major mods try dropping down a tooth on the front sprocket.

Re: saving for a 954

You will love the 954. You could probably hang with them in the twisties if you know what your doing. In the straights you are going to have a hard time keeping up with any 04 or 05 liter bike without spending a good bit of money. Its all in yours and there skills. You definatly wont be disappointed, you may not be the fastest, but you will love it.

Re: saving for a 954

I can tell you this I know people I ride with that have 02 an 032 R1's and I rode them. i feel the 954 has a way better midrange, handles better, and more power...now the 04-05 R1s are a different story, and any R1 below an 02, I can take it to them with my eyes closed on the RR..lol I used to spank them on my Gixxer 750

Re: saving for a 954

The clutch on the 954 is the most user friendly and in the turns it handles like a 600, lets see the R1 so that.....Honda is not the best at one thing, they are GREAT at everything.....

Re: saving for a 954

It's an awesome bike. Take a track school! The brakes are excellent. Don't rule out suspesion upgrades. In fact, that's one of the first things you should do. Get the forks revalved and the correct spring put in for your weight by Dan Kyle. Then get an Ohlins or Penske shock for the rear.

The brakes on the 954 are some of the best available.....believe me you will not want to upgrade the brakes. The only mod I have is a steering damper, and I think they are "essential".

Even a stock 954 is faster than 90% of riders out there can handle. Try red lining one in every gear and then tell me it isn't fast.

Riding a motorcycle fast is not all BHP, it takes practice, experience and skill. The majority of roads don't allow you to ride at 180mph and so it comes down to the rider most of the time. I consider myself good but I'm sure Rossi could take me on a 250 Kawasaki......he wouldn't need BHP!!!

A good rider on a 954 will not be left behind by anything.

(and, if this is your first bike you may want to consider something a little more docile to start with!)

Re: saving for a 954

Suspension, PCIII, and exhaust will server you well. Unfortunately, that all cost a few bucks. As was said the newer R1's will spank a 954. But when you consider they have 150hp to your 130hp then it won't seem so bad. Learn to ride well that is what will really make a difference.

Re: saving for a 954

My buddy just picked up a brand new 2003 954 from a dealer here near detroit.. $7400 OTD w/ a helmet.... Granted a cheapy HJC, but he is gonna use whatever that cost is to a good lid.... I thought he got a damn good deal either way on the bike alone.... and they do have one more left..

I agree, but change the gearing and you may find yourself staying with them to 165-170, change the gearing, nothing drastic, maybe -1 tooth in the front sprocket{around 25$} or go up 2 teeth in the rear sprocket-little more work}

Re: saving for a 954

I found the stock suspension to handle incredible, way better than my 01 GSXR 750
