954 Valve Check Question

One of the last projects I want to get done before spring rides and track days is to check the valves.
The bike currently has 13,000 miles and while I don't hear a lot of clacking around coming from the cyl head, I just want to make sure everything is good to go.

So here's the issue.
The service manual calls for a special tool to hold the CCT all the way in after you are supposed to crank down the CCT.
I'm wondering how important that tool is and if I really need to use something like that, then is there any way to fabricate a replacement as I don't want to wait /spend for the Honda tool.

I figure there has got to be a work aound for this.
'Lil help?

Re: 954 Valve Check Question

The tool isn't listed in the required tools for the 929 at least:

Re: 954 Valve Check Question

Yeah, I saw your thread in the KB.
They've got to be pretty similar, huh? (929 & 954)

Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

Re: 954 Valve Check Question

You only need the tool if you have to adjust the valves.

I fabricated mine with tin snips and an old electrical box. The service manual has good instructions for making that little tool.
