954 Questions: engine cut-out, low-speed gear changes

I recently bought an RR2 and it's a truly fabulous ride -- a great, fun complement to the VFR800 I use for daily transport. There are two things I want to check out with other owners:

1/ On two occasions (in about 800 miles of riding), the engine has cut out while in neutral. On both occasions this was on coming to a stop after riding for a while. The bike started up again immediately and with no problems. Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

2/ Gearchanges to/from first and second seem very clunky. Is this me being hamfisted, a common problem on these bikes or indicative of a problem? The 'box is slick and sweet once things are underway.

Cheers all,
Peter

Welcome to the .org!

If you adjust the idle rpm upwards a bit , that should take care of that problem. And as for shifting, I find it to be smoother to not upshift with the clutch. just load the gearshift a bit with your foot, and momentarily drop the revs.

Nice choice of bikes!

No power commander -- it's a pretty standard bike.

I'll tweak the idle speed up slightly as suggested, and try clutchless shifting.

Thanks guys!
