Arata equipped 954 dynoed at 151 hp!!!

My friend has an 02 954, Arata full system, PCIII and flapper removed. He hit 151 hp with a custom map this weekend. I have the same bike, same year with a Hindle F/S and PCIIIr with the K9 map and I am at 142 hp from the same dyno. Does the Arata make that much more hp then a Hindle or is just bike to bike difference? I have 11000 miles on mine and he has 23500 miles on his.

In back to back testing, Dan Kyle documented a 1.7 HP difference between the Arata and Hindle full systems on the same bike. Was your bike dynoed on the same machine, same day, same operator? If so, then the differences should be due to something else (like the map you are using, or the oil which can easily account for 3 HP of the difference).

Re: Arata equipped 954 dynoed at 151 hp!!!

The difference could be between bikes. Identically prepared bikes of approximately the same age and mileage could be 5-10 horses apart in back-to-back runs on the same dyno, same day. Much depends on break-in (I won't claim to know the best way to break in a bike).

I had three 929's between '00 and '02; one of them was clearly stronger right out of the box than the other two.

Ummm, seems a little high to me. I have a shaved head, port/polished, and with MR1 race fuel dyno'd at 153.3 with full hindle. But.....different dyno, different results.

Re: Arata equipped 954 dynoed at 151 hp!!!

Our dyno runs were about 3 weeks apart, temperatures were about the same (the dyno room was inside). I am running Motul full synthetic oil, not sure about my buddy. I was running regular gas, the tuner told me that premium would have had me at 144 - 145 hp. I think my friend just has an incredibly strong 954 right out of the box. I purchased my bike from a service manager at a local bike shop, so I did not break it in. He did have it at the track a few times. My friend purchased his new, and he was not overly gentle breaking it in. I may try a custom map, but the K9 map that I have now has loads of power at partial throttle and great response.

That's why I asked if it was the same all around. My 929 came in a shipment with 2 others and they were all dynoed out of the box, same day, same dyno, same operator. Mine made all of 119 and change, the shop owner "took" the one that dynoed at 127 and the third one made 118.

What weight oil is the Motul and what weight is your buddy running? Also, how much more does the shop make when they sell an Arata pipe vs the lowly Hindle? I have seen this on several occasions when the shop wants to sell "performance". The big buck parts always make more "power" on the in-house dyno

Premium gas might run cleaner, but by itself won't yield any additional power unless it's oxygenated.

Re: Arata equipped 954 dynoed at 151 hp!!!

The Motul is 300V SPORT 4T 10W40. I think my friend is using semi synthetic 10W40. The shop is the exclusive Arata dealer in Ontario Canada, so may have weighted the findings. His bike made 147 before they even hooked up the pcIII. I am going to trade bikes with him this week and see how my seat of the pants dyno compares!!

Re: Arata equipped 954 dynoed at 151 hp!!!

regarding the oil questions . . . We ran my 929 back to back with 15W50 and 0W30 and saw 7 HP difference. They don't sell the 0W30 any longer, but I am using the Factory Line 5W40 with the same type of results.

When Dan ran his comparison tests, many people were surprised that the differences were so tiny, as there is quite a difference in price (and gee whiz factor as well). Interestingly, the Hindle out-performed the Arata and the Micron serpent on the low-end due to Lang's collector design and all three pipes were within 2 HP of each other on top.

Pretty difficult to gauge considering the "tested" difference is 9 hp which is just over a 5% differential over all. How did the curves compare?

Horsepower curves were very similar.

My windshield is taller, maybe that is why??? :-)

Re: Arata equipped 954 dynoed at 151 hp!!!

The bikes will vary as well as far as how much difference each system will make. For example, on 2 R1's I did recently, one bike gained 7h.p with the Arata system and the one I did yesterday gained 14h.p. Same bike, same system etc. And Arata said the same thing, (because I asked what the hell was going on). Different bikes will gain more, and some less, with the same mods. I have seen that with other bikes too. So to say that ON ALL BIKES the Arata makes 2h.p more than the Hindle (on all 954's) I don't think is right. On THAT bike it was, but on other bikes, I don't think it would be.
I have seen 149 from 130 with the Arata and mapping, so I don't doubt your mates bike is putting out those numbers (but it is a different dyno, the GAINS are what is important). And maybe your bike didn't get tyhe gains that other 954's will with the Hindle system. It ain't all just as cut and dry as most people think.
