how bad sould the stock suspension feel?

I just got a 00 929 w/14k miles- the suspension feels like crap but how bad is too bad? going into a turn I have to apply way too much force on the inside clipon. if i dont it seriously feels like its gonna chopper flop on me and just wash out. wants to stand up too easily mid corner also. before you ask- it has a scotts sd on it and the tire is pretty shot. i guess what im getting at- is dk suspension going to get rid of these problems? does all worn out 929 suspension show these characteristics (SP)? ive heard people say how "shot" and soft their suspension is but never have heard anyone give a good description of what it actually feels like before and after

Re: how bad sould the stock suspension feel?

Its not fantastic to start, at 14k its totaly shot. At a minimum fresh oil and stiffer springs if your oever 140 pounds. A worn tire isnt helping any ether. Time to freshen it all up.

As GFJ said, time for freshening. We can help you spend money if you want suggestions on how to best upgrade it!

Hey Motolombardo,

I've got an '01 version of the same bike - 27kms on mine and I reckon my suspension is OK.

What settings are you using on the bike ?, sounds like the front end is set way too soft to me. I don't like spending money when I don't really have to - well that's what I tell my wife anyway

IMO I think time spent trying to set the bike up as best you can with the suspension you've got is the best investment you can make before reverting to spending money on it.

I not saying the stock suspension is perfect - far from it, but I reckon you can still make the bike pretty rideable with a few hours spent tuning it.

There's a thread I started somewhere further down in this section of the org called 'suspension set-up' that covers some of my experiences trying to get my 929 going the right way around corners - if you're interested have a read of that for a few ideas...and if you really want to blow a few bucks straight away throw a set of Michelin Powers onto your bike before you start the suspension tuning, if your tyres are "pretty shot" they'll be giving you all kinds of handling problems - especially if they've been worn out by someone else with a different riding style to you.

Good luck !

Cheers, Spanky.

Re: how bad sould the stock suspension feel?

Upgrades aside, a 5 year old bike with 14,000 miles on it at least needs the fork oil changed, not to mention the condition of the stock rear shock.

Re: how bad sould the stock suspension feel?

im gettin nervous now- just noticed the right side of the front tire has considerably less tread than the left. just bought a fresh 208 for it today, hopefully that takes care of it a little bit. i tried the sport rider suggested settings but its still crap.
