A D&D exhaust will help you wheelie better.

To me, asking 'which one sounds the best' is like asking someone's favorite color: it is completely a personal preference. What I like doesn't necessarily have anything to do with what you or anyone else likes. You'll get a different opinion from everyone. It's hard to describe the variance in tone without hearing them for yourself. Except for D&D, in which case you'll get the same opinion from almost everyone: they're really F'n loud.

That being said, I like the sound of my Micron (nothing 'great' or 'special,' but nice). I really liked the sound of my Two Brothers slip-on on my 929 & 954. They don't make a full exhaust for the 1000RR, and I'm not a fan of the looks of their new canister for the 1000RR.

Hard Racing usually advertise Micron's great gains in HP (Serpent full system), but no one else seems to get gains as high as theirs. Also, the gains that people get seems to vary a lot from 1000RR to 1000RR. The price is usually pretty good, though.

If I did it over again, I'd go with the Arata. They get as much performance as anyone, and it seems pretty consistant from bike to bike. Quality (fit, finish, welds, etc.) is excellent.

Re: Aftermarket Pipes for 1000RR

I'm looking into the twin outlet micron. I'm not worried about big gains really, I just want a nice look and sound. Have a Micron on my 929 and I've been very happy with it. Who else makes pipes that fit like a stock pipe, I'm not keen on the oval can type.

Re: Aftermarket Pipes for 1000RR

Arata are making the "box" style muffler for the 1000RR now, instead of the oval type, and they are better quality than Micron.
As for full systems, I get between 10-14h.p on the 1000RR's depending on what they start with. It seems like the lower the stock figure, the more "gains" they make, although they all end up with the same sort of end result.

TWO BROTHERS AND ERION ARE THE BEST EXHAUST FOR HONDA BIKE, NOT ONLY THAT THEY ARE THE SPECIALIST FOR HONDA BIKES, JUST LIKE GRAVES RACING ARE THE SPECIALIST IN YAMAHA, MUZZY WITH KAWIES AND YOSHIMURA WITH SUZUKIS. YES THEY ALL MAKE EXHUAST FOR OTHER BIKES BUT THEY ALL SPECIALIZE IN ONE BIKE MODEL. DO YOU WANT TO GET THE BEST HP FOR YOUR BIKE OR THE BEST SOUND? IS ALL UP TO YOU.

Re: Aftermarket Pipes for 1000RR

SATYR you need to do more research. just because they specialize in a certain brand doesn't make them the best. Common knowledge here (for atleast the 929/954) is that the Arata makes the most power and the Hindle is close behind. But those are full systems, slip ons won't make as much of a difference in power gains.

if you can't convince them, confuse them.

Re: Aftermarket Pipes for 1000RR

Oh yeah! Well I just made an exhaust for my 954 out of a paper towel roll, some dryer hose, Duct Tape, and a few Zip-Ties. The things is so fast now. I loaded a map in my PC from a V-Rod and the thing just staright up rips now. It's the best sounding exhaust I have ever heard and it was cheap . The only problem is when it rains, the "pipe" falls apart . Luckily I carry spares in my trunk.

Re: Aftermarket Pipes for 1000RR

I did mine from the stock pipe cut the back off gutted it out and rewelded it.
Sounds good looks stock. And I also removed the exhaust valve. I have
pictures of it on the bike just don't know how to get it to load.

Re: Aftermarket Pipes for 1000RR

Got the Mircon Twin outlet slip-on for the 1000rr.

It's a good deal louder than stock, much more deep and growling...not raspy at all. Looks like it belongs on the bike, much nicer than the stock exhaust (the plastic end cap killed it for me). The heatshield above the exhaust needs to be bent up alittle to clear the new pipe. Gains, who knows, bike felt alittle more perky but nothing I can be sure of.
