Re: ?? Speedo problems on my 929 ??

Just behind the cylinder bank, in the center above the transmission there is a sensor that goes down into the case. That sensor will have a connector that may have come undone.

Re: ?? Speedo problems on my 929 ??

You probably knocked something in your gauge unit then. It was worth a shot, but if your odometer is working correctly, then the sensor is working. You may have just knowcked the needle loose, but depending on how hard the hit was I guess you may have broken more than that. Sucks, but I'd check the needle next. If that's not it you'll most likely need a new gauge unit.
See if someone local will let you hook theirs up to your bike for a quick test.

I went and jiggled the wire that goes in the case and now it works??
I'll just wait and see how long it lasts..

Thanks BDA116!!

Re: ?? Speedo problems on my 929 ??

I OWN A 2001 CBR929RR (25K MILES) HERE IS MY PROBLEM. APPROX 1 MILE AFTER RIDING MY BIKE, THE SPEEDOMETER GOES TO ZERO. SOON MY "FI" AND "MIL" LIGHT COME ON. THE SPEEDOMETER STAYS AT ZERO FOR APPROX 2 MILES THEN IT STARTS TO WORK FINE, BUT THE "FI" AND "MIL" LIGHTS STAY ON. THE CONFUSING THING IS THAT IF I STOP MY BIKE, TURN IT OFF AND START IT BACK UP, EVERYTHING IS FINE. I HAVE CHECKED THE OBVIOUS (BATTERY, CABLES, FUSES). COULD IT BE MY SPEED SENSOR OR SOMETHING MORE EXPEN$IVE? PLEASE HELP PEOPLE

Re: ?? Speedo problems on my 929 ??

i have an erion BO canister, prushased 2 years ago, so that is not the problem (i think). i inspected the wires (speed sensor) and everything looked ok. if my speed sensor is malfunctioning, will it still work at start-up? it works for the first mile then it goes to zero.

Are you getting any fault codes?

Re: ?? Speedo problems on my 929 ??

yes sir, 1 long blink and 1 short blink= 11 on the service book correct? i do believe its the speed sensor that needs replacing. the confusing part is that whenever the speedo goes MIA and the FI & MIL lights go and i pull-over stop the bike turn it off and turn it back on everything is normal.

Re: ?? Speedo problems on my 929 ??

It's a loose connection, bad sensor, or possible short...

Re: ?? Speedo problems on my 929 ??

Do you have a factory service manual? If not, I'd suggest you invest in one as it details the procedures to test and evaluate the sensor, connection, and wiring. I'll scan the pages and post them tomorrow if you need (don't have a scanner at home)...
