Melting Moments?

Ok, once again I'm sick of the ugliness that is the stock 1000rr pipe and heat shield. I am thinking a little about just binning the gold cowl, trimming the shield and polishing the can end, but I am at least thinking of going the atermarket route. I am looking for just a slipon - I certainly dont need extra power for the riding I do. When looking around, I have noticed a lot of bikes are removing the some or all of the metal heat shields. I havent seen any with melting issues yet, but is this something that may happen? Or are the heat shields just there for extra insurance? Should I be looking at a can like the micron that fits with the std shields, or not worry and just remove them.....Anyone?....

Re: Melting Moments?

If you get a Titanium or CF can heat will not be an issue.

I would think the sheild would still be a good idea for the seat and saddle bags (for those of us that use them)

Re: Melting Moments?

Don't ditch the shield with the stock pipe, it has a catalytic converter so the can runs hot.
