Used power commanders

I was looking at getting a used usb power commander and was wondering if I can get one from any honda or any 929/954? Then set it up for my setup? Thanks.

Re: Used power commanders

you can certainly get one from any other 954 and tune it to your application....but I dont believe just any Honda will do.

It would appear that 929 and 954 are different. That is for the new USB part # but I would think the same was the case if you go with the serial connected one.

Re: Used power commanders

The serial connected ones for the 929 and 954 are different. The plugs are the same, so one for a 929 will plug into a 954, you just won't be able to directly download maps. You can make it work by cutting and pasting in the map, but I personally wouldn't want the hassle. It would have to be a screamin' deal. Really screamin', like free.

Why couldn't one just dowload a 929 map into the 954? Isn't the extension(.map) the same between the 2? Am I missing something here?

Is there code imbedded into each bikes maps that allow it to only work on a specific bike?

Tom

Re: Used power commanders

I've been looking at the different maps and noticed that the 929 runs off a 13k rpm map and the 954 runs off a 14k rpm map. Is this the reason?

Re: Used power commanders

I don't know the reason, I've just read on here somewhere that it's not a direct download.

Re: Used power commanders

Yes, each bike would have a different map. You can have many different .xls files and not have any one resemble the other in the slightest. Same with .dbf files and many other extension-similar files.
Same with the maps. The are given a .map extension, but the actual map intercepting the stock ECU data would be structured differently according to each bike's ECU structure.
For it to function 100% correctly, you need a bike-specific PC.

Re: Used power commanders

Adding to the questions:
No custom map made yet, but in the mean time until the custom map is made... If you have a 929 with 954 injectors (8 holes vs 4 holes), are you better off using a map for a 929 or cutting and pasting a 954 map?

Sorry to jack the thread.
