I use Motorcycle-specific full synth Amsoil 10w40.

You're gonna get about a billion different opinions on this. You have been warned!

Re: synthetic or semi synthetic oil for 929RR?

that's true. i think i thake the valvoline full synthetic oil Synpower 10w40.
Because in the neer of my location there are no Castrol dealers located.

This morning I call to Honda Belgium with my questions, one of the guys at the technical service telled me the fireblade must have mineral or semi synthetic oil, full synthetic he says is not good???

Verry strange i think not?

Re: synthetic or semi synthetic oil for 929RR?

The serivce guy at the dealership that I just picked my bike up from said not to run fully synthetic. I had never heard that before but he said their district service manager said to pass on the info.

Re: synthetic or semi synthetic oil for 929RR?

You really need to do a search to see why anyone would say not to use a full synthetic oil. "Real" synthetics are far superior to semi or so called synthetics or extremely highly refined mineral oil.

The only reason you were told not to use full synthetic is because many are made with molybdenum disulfide as a friction reducer which can make the clutch slip.

There are a handful of excellent full synthetic oils specifically made without friction reducers that work extremely well in your Blade or any other motorcycle with a wet clutch.

I will say that Valvoline doesn't make any of them and Castrol's "real" synthetic is pretty hard to find. Take a look at Silkolene, AMSoil, Motul and Redline.

Re: synthetic or semi synthetic oil for 929RR?

Since you are in Belgium, you should be able to find Motul 300V pretty easily. In my opinion, this is the best motorcycle oil currently available.

The Valvoline "Full" synthetic is actually a mixture of mineral (dino) oil and PAOs which if you read the chemical structure of PAO, you will find it is "enhanced hydrocarbons", or simply put, very clean mineral oil with varying additives.

Real synthetic oil is made entirely of Ester which is derived from various fruit combinations (bananna, coconut etc.) and chemically polorized which causes the oil to electrolytically bond to metal (both ferrous and non ferrous) surfaces.

That article didn't test a single real synthetic oil. All of the so called synthetics named in the article are blends of base dino oil and enhanced dino oil. I agree with them about the "motorcycle specific" surcharge, but totally disagree with any statement that Mobil 1 or any PAO or enhanced mineral based oil is even in the same category as the least expensive Ester based product (which they conveniently didn't test or even acknowledge in the article).

This has been hashed out here and on a hundred different forums over the past several years and everyone walks away believing "their favorite" oil is still the best regardless of literally hundreds of test results and engineering white papers stating that it isn't.

OK, might as well get this started: V
