Exhausts - do they have to be bike specific?

Hi people!!
Very sorry and forgive me if this comes across as a supid question but can, for eg. a Suzuki GSXR 1000 muffler or a ZX10R or similar be compatible with a 1996 RR? I know the bolt patterns may be different but other than that?? I love the Yoshimura Tri Oval Carbon end can (the dual outlet one!!)but Yosh doesnt seem to make one for the pre 2000 'Blades.
Also have any of you tried a RC-51 SP1/2 dual high mount type set up on a Blade? What would a dual setup sound like?

I ask because as the pre 2000's are getting long in the tooth.. accessories are getting really difficult to source...a lot of you knowledgeable folk have said its not worth spending on a 10 year old bike..but i love 'em!!
The other day I noticed a BIG digital display cluster on a '98..i assume from a 929/954..does this work??? I do know that all post 96 'blades have their speedo drives off the tranny, like the 929/954..if this works..it would make a really cool not too expensive mod... ..??..

Thanks

*Almost* anything is possible with some fabrication/modification... But, for best results, stick with what is made for the specific bike model.

I had a 96' Erion Double R and I loved it! I now own a 06' 1000RR and I LOVE that too, but every time I see a 96' it still reminds me of some of the best riding,(and stupidest) of my life. Long in the tooth? Nah, like any fine wine, it just gets better with age!

pretty much you want one for your bike. manufacturers spend a lot of time getting it right so we don't have to do it ourselves!

but yes you could spend lots of time and money to mod one from something else to fit. Whether you would get any gains other than "a job well done" I would doubt! imho

I adapted a yoshi from a zxr1000 (1985) To my 1999 CBR900, I had to fabricate an adaptor, sounds great, it is a little shorter, I will post some pictures, but before i have to test it maybe DYNO
