954 and 3000rpm

is anyone able to keep the throttle at 3000rpm at neutral!

there is some wierd sh..happening there it jumps up and down. I think this is the reason the 954 is so hard to drive in traffic.

I heard that VRF800 have same problem. Someone cured the problem with Power commander and custom map. But maybe the 954 is more tricky because the exhaust valve is also opening at 3000.

Re: 954 and 3000rpm

Yeah it seems to be a standard 954 trait, mine has the flapper, HTEV and pair valve removed and a different map and it still does it

Re: 954 and 3000rpm

I have also heard that hardwiring the clutch switch would cure it? haven't tested it yet.

I think the clutch switch could do some change as I can notice the bike is running differently with gear on compared to neutral, it's like running different map or something. My clutch switch is broken, so I can notice the difference. I think the ecu runs neutral map when the clutch is in or when the bike is in neutral. If your clutch switch is working, you cannot tell the difference between neutral and 1 gear. when the switch is not connected you can notice the difference it makes at 3000.

But if it's a map change, then it should be fixable with powercommander.?

maybe there is some sort of huge increase in the fuel mapping in the ecu at the same time the exhaust valve opens.? It's probably squirting some enrichment during the 3000 to compensate the exhaust opening up? Maybe at neutral map it doesn't use enrichment at all?

But you probably loose some power with the neutral map. There should be a manual switch, so I could use neutral map during traffic. or below 4000?
`
investigation continues....

Re: 954 and 3000rpm

I had the same problem on all three of my 954's.
Solution:
PC3, Full Exhaust, BMC Air Filter, O2 Sensor Eliminator, Pair Valve Blockoff, Remove the Flapper inside the Airbox, and most importantly get a custom dynotune.
Getting a fully customized map should cost about $300-400. If they charge less they are doing it wrong. It takes about 4-7 hours on the dyno. Sometimes even longer.
Hope this helps out.
