oil filter clearence with hindle header

I cant get my oil filter off my 2000 929, it is unscrewed but wont clear the header.

I got this bike used and it seems to have a full hindle exhaust. No doubt the header must be loosened and I'm hoping for some tips. Like do I need an exhaust gasket once the header is moved?

any help is appreciated

Re: oil filter clearence with hindle header

I would guess the previous owner put the wrong filter on it. Although the old ones will work, they are longer than the correct filter for the 929.

Try removing the bolt on the exhaust hanger and then just push down slightly on the cannister. This should move the headers out enough to remove the filter.

But get the correct part so you don't need to do this again . . .

Re: oil filter clearence with hindle header

Thanks for the reply! You saved me from removing the header from the engine to gain the extra room.

I got the filter from the Honda shop and she loooked it up.

thanks again

Re: oil filter clearence with hindle header

The 'new' oil filter seems the same but I only needed like 1/8 inch more room so I'm good to go.

I can live with the hanger loosening, thanks.

Sometimes you need to wiggle it around a little. It's a tight fit on fine, but I can get the filter on and off without removing anything.

Re: oil filter clearence with hindle header

I have full hindle exhaust on my 954 and i need to loosen one of the headers to take the filter off. It's a real PITA. I didn't think there were two sizes of oil filters??? I thought all hondas used the same filter.

The part number for the short(er) filter is 15410-MCJ-000.

Not at all. In fact the part number that Red Rider gave is a high pressure unit designed specifically for the 929 and later Blades. Honda warns about using the older style as it can actually blow out the internals under extreme conditions.

and if you use the technique I described earlier, it is much easier than loosening one of the headers . . .

Re: oil filter clearence with hindle header

Sorry to dig up an old thread, I have the same issue with my hindle headers. The filter I have is 15410-MFJ-D01, does anyone know where you can still get 15410-MCJ-000?

Re: oil filter clearence with hindle header

The 15410-MFJ-D01 is 2.5" long, what's the length of 15410-MCJ-000? Is there a shorter alternative?
