Swingarm measurement assistance for 954/CB750 retrofit?

I saw this (see attached) on ebay and lust ensued.

I'm working on retrofitting 929/954 stuff to my CB750 and could use some advice & measurements.

Today, I'm looking for swingarm width at the pivot end, and some information about the rear shock mount, to determine whether or not to try to use the 954 swingarm, or go the custom fabricated arm route...

Also, I could use total length of the 954/929 forks.

Additionally, anyone care to hazard a guess as to how likely it will be that the steering stem from the 954 will happily mate to my old frame?

Any info from you guys will be appreciated.

I have no idea if any of it will fit, but I can try to get you some measurements tomorrow (Monday). Right now, I'm 8 on 8 off triple back, and dead on my feet, and the only thing I'm doing today is going straight to bed, until I have to come back to work.

Hang in there, maybe somebody will beat me to it.

Thanks!

Im certain there are other pertinent measurements as well, but those are the initial priorities.

Again, thanks in advance.

Re: Swingarm measurement assistance for 954/CB750 retrofit?

The only accurate measurement that I could get with my swingarm on the bike was 1.85" on the right pivot mount. From the picture you posted, it looks like a 954/929 front end with Ohlins forks, 954 rear wheel, Custom fabricated swingarm. If I were building a cafe racer, I would use the retro looking dual shock setup in the back.

d'oh! I meant across the pivot mount, side to side in the chassis...sorry about that. Also, the approximate stem length would be great, if accessible.

I cant get a real accurate measurement for you, but perhaps someone who has their swingarm off can get that for you.

Preoccupied lately:

Here's some measurements I've taken before-

https://www.fireblades.org/forums/hon...t=measurements

I won't be able to give you the width if you have to remove the swingarm, but if you want to specify what width and where to take the measurement, I should be able to help you.

Also, run a search for measurements, you may find it in the "search" button on the toolbar here.

I'm currently in the middle of converting my 96 VFR swingarm to fit my 03 954. I have both arms at work (machine shop ). Inside dimension for the pivot point on the 954 is 7.463", but the pivot collars on the inside reduce that to 7.250".

I know of a guy who builds custom bikes. He's a top notch builder. He may be able to assist you in fabricating a new swingarm. here's his website.. He's a nice guy.

Re: Swingarm measurement assistance for 954/CB750 retrofit?

As for the 954rr tripple trees and forks fitting your frame... you would have to measure the head tube length of your frame and see if it is close to the head tube length of the 954rr. If it's within 3/16th's of an inch I would say yes the tripple trees will fit. Custom bearing races may have to be machined for your application, or go to a bearing supply company and see what they have. I'm guessing having new races machined and hardened from 17-2 stainless steel would cost around $200. They will have to be hardened after machining and 17-2 stainless will do that for you.

I don't have a set of 954rr tripple clamps lying around, but I can get the measurement on the length of the forks if you can wait a couple days.
