Re: Damage estimate for the blade.

Finally got the damage estimate ... the service guy asked if I was sitting down. $10,500 in damages.

Re: Damage estimate for the blade.

That's freaking nutz, but oh so typical. My pal *totaled* his 929 ($8500) damage and it was so minor I did not even notice that he'd tossed it until I sat down next to him and the bike and he handed me the busted off mirrors (he finally got them down to 4300 so the bike got fixed but does not have a salvage title).

That's just nutz....

Re: Damage estimate for the blade.

Stator cover and engine inspection is all it needs to be roadworthy again ... the money spots were the tank, plastics, swingarm. Swingarm just has a little roadrash on the left side, not nearly serious enough to compromise the structural integrity of it. We'll see how things go. I'm definitely going to try and buy it back.

Re: Damage estimate for the blade.

I wonder if the insurance companies are as tired of dealing with the overpriced repair shops and dealers as we are.

I have to assume that they're finding it easier and cheaper in the long run to have us get new bikes rather than let the dealers 'find' something else wrong in the midst of a repair. ( 'I measured the frame - -with what, a ruler?- - and it's way off- it'll have to be replaced.')

After all, the insurance companies have to protect their rep as being the biggest thieves on the planet - can't let the stealers get into the act...

And they know we'll find a way to pay their astronomical premiums.

Re: Damage estimate for the blade.

Buy the thing back and fix it with used parts or new ones from ronayers.com. The retail prices that the dealers charge for parts are crazy. When I wrecked mine, the swingarm was almost $1000. The tank was $660. You can get swingarms on ebay for $50 and a new tank from ronayers is like $465. The rest of the parts were priced similarly. The repair bill on mine was close to $7000 for mostly cosmetic damage.

Re: Damage estimate for the blade.

Guess I'll update this since I'm just now getting the estimates for my gear.

Total payoff for the bike was ~7500 while I owed ~5000. Buy-back was only 900 so I'm happy with that.

Total for the gear came to $977.38 . I'll be waiting for that check for a while I'm sure.

What can anybody tell me about medical settlements? Is a settlement usually offered or do I just not sign any paperwork until I have something an offer I'm happy with?

Re: Damage estimate for the blade.

On a medical settlement, DO NOT SIGN jack **** until your treatment is completely finished. I cannot stress this enough!

Re: Damage estimate for the blade.

Treatment is finished, never really was any. The only time I was at the hospital was the ER getting my elbow x-rayed that night and there was no break, just really sore and tender.
