Tail Fairing fit

Anyone know if a 98 or 99 900RR tail fairing will fit on a 95 900RR ? Thanks.. i've asked this to others but they didn't know.

I'm aware the tail light would also have to be changed to match up, so no worries there.

Re: Tail Fairing fit

Wow, i'm amazed no one here can tell me if this parts swap works or not. It's ok, no problemo. I'll probably get the 98/99 tail and give it a try, if it doesn't work then i can eBay the parts.

Re: Tail Fairing fit

It will fit, but not perfectly. First of all, the mounts on your subframe may be off. Most people who have done the mod suggest grinding the mounts off, moving them up about 1/2" and either aluminum welding or jbwelding them back on.

next would be the taillight, which you said you already knew.

When i bought the 99 plastics for my 93 900rr, i also ran into a seat issue. turns out the 98-99 seat is different from the 93-97 seat, so my seat hit my plastics. I can mock up the whole rear end, but the vertical braces on the back of my seat rub the plastic when opening/closing the trunk.

Not much work for someone who's used to modding and makes the bike rear look much "skinnier"

just remember to grind before you jbweld...you might be better off to find an aluminum welder to tack those mounts back on for you, it's worth it in the end.

Re: Tail Fairing fit

Great, thanks for the reply Do you know if a 98-99 subframe will bolt to the earlier model main frame?

Re: Tail Fairing fit

yes, i believe the 99 subframe will bolt right up....as far as i know the only difference is the fairing mounts.

Re: Tail Fairing fit

No! They do fit but not without fabrications!. Out of the four sections that the subframe bolts to the frame, the upper two are longer on the 98-99; therefore, your rear will sag terribly. I have read countless on people taking the measurements off their 93-97 subframe and cutting the 98-99 upper tubes shorter and taking the bolt taps off the cut section, drilling holes on the correct measured places and JB-welding/welding them on. Another method is to change the locations of the screws on the 93-97 subframe but that involves just as much work. Another thing you have to get is the rear seat mount bracket off the 98-99. They sit lower then the 93-97's and if you use the original bracket, you will have a big gap and look odd.

Re: Tail Fairing fit

I heard in 98-99 Honda made changes to the seat height so that makes sense.
