Re: First weekend on my 954

OH MY LORD........I LOVE this thing. I don't know how I have owned 4 600's and never thought anyone needed to have a liter class bike. Well after my 330 mile weekend on my new 954 I have totally changed my opinion. Now I don't see how I have never owned one, till now that is. I can't say enough good things about this bike. Power, comfort, looks, badass brakes, oh yeah...and POWER. Seeing as I am still in my break-in period I have rarely taken it over 6500 rpm's, and so far, I don't see the need to. I sure can't wait till I can though. In the six years I have been riding street bikes I have ridden very few liter class bikes, and the ones that I did ride I always thought was too much. Now with more expeience under my a$$ I find that they are very fun and quite controlable. So all in all, I am now totally hooked on my Fiddy-Fo.

Re: First weekend on my 954

It really is a great bike! I knew there would be more power, but I didn't realize HOW MUCH more there was. After riding a literbike, I don't know that I could ever ride a smaller displacement bike on the street again. The torque is like crack! The track would be a different story.

Enjoy the 954! I know I do!

Just wait, you'll like it even better once it's broken in.

Re: First weekend on my 954

As an experienced 954 rider, I must caution you: do not go full throttle in 1st or 2nd gear after she's broken in, else you'll be looking at the sky. As I recall, the 954 makes about 600cc class max power (ie. 100 rwhp) at around 6500 rpm, and everything after that is gravy. * *

Re: First weekend on my 954

dude...crack that thing open..dont baby it or u will be wishing u hadnt...

I did a few heat cycles on mine and then tossed on about 50 miles and then it was tapped out...

Ive owned 2 of them already..the first one I babied, the 2nd one is how i just mentioned..needless to say the one i have now puts out more power...

as always there are a trillion people that will say different break in procedures....Ive seen as much as 8-10 hp difference in bikes that were babied, vs the ones that were road how they should be....

just my .02

I know alot of people who break in bikes like this and they all say the same thing. Warm it up and go riding.

Re: First weekend on my 954

Con-grats on the 54. Welcome to the liter class! Just remember this bike is less forgiving than a 6. Whatch your throttling until you get use to it! ...and dump the 190 rear asap. It ruins the bikes handling, IMO.

Re: First weekend on my 954

02FBlade: I have always been very smooth with my throttle application, even on my six's, but this is a whole new world on my 54. I am glad that I always had good throttle control every time I get on it. The big thing for me is between corners when I would normally give like 3/4 throttle on my six and come in to the corners at a comfortable speed. Now on the 54 I made the mistake of giving the same amount of throttle but carried A LOT more speed into the same corners. So I have adjusted my riding style a bit. There is also quiet a bit more braking power in the 54....which makes for some rather interesting negative g's under hard braking. As far as the 190 tire...yup as soon as it gets down there in it's life that bad boy is gone.

but a 180 tire can fit on the stock rim or does it need one from another bike?

Re: First weekend on my 954

I have a few friends with 54's that just put a 180 on their stock rim. It just flattens the profile a bit, makes for nice smooth side to side transitions.
